Recently, I’ve embraced a life-long fear, and turned it into an obsession. Tricky business.
If you know me, you would have already realised that I wear a lot of black. No, I don’t go to many funerals. No, I’m not always angry. And no, it’s not even something complex like complimenting my skin tone. I’ve simply always been attracted to the black mini on the rack rather than the red one and own several black minis because they are all so different. I used to think this was a fear of colours, a fear of venturing out and widening my colour spectrum but I’ve now embraced it. After all, it never fails.
Henry Dreyfuss once described black as the colour of mystery and solemnity. He said it expresses the depths of the unknown, and encourages the imagination of a different world from the reality of day. This, is the greatest excuse for colouring your wardrobe all different shades of black.
There’s no denying it, I love black. We’re inseparable, and every time I think of cheating, I always find myself coming back. For one solid colour, it is hella versatile and of course we all love how it’s apparently ‘slimming’. Elegance, power, sophistication, evil, remorse and wealth are just some of the things that make it so intriguingly versatile - when in doubt, go back to black.
So this is a toast to black, and its sheer ability to always stay in vogue.
